Class Pages

We have been working with our Year 1 Buddies to make story boxes.

By now you will have heard about, and seen, what has been going on at school this week. Year 6 have been analysing proceedings in various ways: we have researched birds ( living and extinct) to try and find out what may have laid the egg; monitored it using data logging devices to measure sound and temperature changes; prepared newspaper reports and finally, constructed 3D models.

Today the classroom was filled with characters from Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Star Wars, Pippi Longstocking and many other literary figures, as we completed a rather unusual Book Week.

Oh, and we even managed to squeeze in some Mother’s Day cards to wish all our mums a very Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday…..

This week has been very exciting, with the discovery of the giant egg on Monday morning (see Head’s pages) followed by daily updates on what was was going on. The egg moved, it cracked and finally it hatched… but where is the creature?

In year 3 we drew pictures and made models of what we thought the creature would look like. We also made up stories and wrote our own little books all about the mysterious egg.

On Thursday we had a visit from Mrs Allen (unrelated to the egg!). In our D and T lessons we have been looking at packaging, and Mrs Allen was able to help us here. We worked in groups to design and make packaging for a variety of different foods, and Mr Rose came in to inspect – and judge – the outcomes. We all enjoyed the day – and would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Allen.

On Friday we had another lovely day, everyone dressed up as book characters; Mr Rose was the King and the teachers were the King’s men…. were they here to help put the egg back together?! The highlight for some of us was seeing the king’s horse!

We have lots of lovely photos of Year 3 enjoying their activities this week but unfortunately there is a problem with the photos being downloaded  (uploaded?) on to the website….. we will try again next week!

Day 3

The egg has cracked!!

Year 5 completed a piece of creative writing and looked at what it would be like if they were the animal/creature inside the egg! We made a cardboard box version so the children could actually get inside to experience being inside the egg! They used their senses to describe what the animal would see, hear, feel, smell, what the atmosphere would be like and how it would be feeling.

We also had a scientist visit school. She went round the classes asking the children what they have seen, what they have found out and any additional information to help her with her investigations!

Day 4

The egg has hatched! There are shell remains and a few feathers left where the egg stood whole! The mystery thickens!

Today we are making models of what we think was inside the egg to go inside our own paper mache eggs! Some very creative ideas!

As you have probably heard by now, on Monday morning a giant egg was found on the school roof! The fire service came and after testing it brought it down.  It was then moved to the courtyard garden where the police cordoned it off.  We spent yesterday making newspaper headlines and articles based on the event! The children spent a lot of time investigating the egg as well, using magnify glasses and the camera to take pictures so they could zoom in. Oli B, Owen and Angelos found a crack in the egg and think they saw it move when they were observing it.

Today (Tuesday) we are looking into what we think is in the egg, and investigating all the different possibilities. The children also wanted to make their own eggs and a model of what they think is inside the egg. So we have all used paper mache to cover a balloon ready to act as our egg.

We are all really curious and intrigued about the egg but also very excited by the whole event!

This year we are trying something different by having a separate performance for Years 3 and 4.  In the past Yr3/4 have performed with Yrs 5/6 in the summer term.

We would like to invite you to a performance of Cinderella and Snow White, two musical performances written by R Dahl, on Thursday 28th March at 2pm.  You will all receive two tickets per family.  More tickets may become available on request later.

We appologise for the late notice of this event but due to a number of circumstances out of our control we were not able to confirm the date until now.

In Literacy we have been learning  how to write and follow instructions. This week we worked with a partner to make up instructions for a game. We then tested our instructions to see whether the games were clearly explained.

We had fun making pirate rafts on our pirate day!

Making sandwiches!

in Year 3 Class Page

In Literacy we are learning how to write instructions. Today we gave instructions to a partner to make a sandwich, then we followed our partner’s instructions to make our own sandwich. We used lots of “bossy” verbs! PS The sandwiches were delicious!

Year 6 recently developed their learning in textiles with another session led by Mrs Dowling. This time we created a class piece of art, inspired by a photograph of a polluted beach, that is in our collage in class. Having looked at photographs of pebbles on a beach, we used the felting techniques to make our own pebbles. These are going to be arranged for display.

Come and see them next time you are in school.
