Year 2 had a visit from the fire service. They were taught about the dangers of fire and how to keep themselves safe. The fire officers showed the class all the specialist equipment and clothing they use including the fire engine.
They were told the story of FrancesTheFirefly.
Follow these simple steps to keep yourself and your loved ones safe in the home:
- Fit a smoke alarm on every level of your home
- Test your smoke alarm regularly – it’s just one press of a button
- Change your battery once a year or invest in a 10-year alarm
- Vacuum the alarm casing twice a year to ensure dust isn’t blocking the sensor
- Plan your escape route – two different routes will help everyone at home know the quickest and safest way out
- If you do not have a smoke alarm you can arrange a free Home Fire Safety Check – use the online form at www.hertsdirect.org/fire or call Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on 0300 1234046
Thankyou for all the lovely veggies you sent in last Friday. We used them to make these lovely pictures by Henri Matisse. He was a French artist who like to ‘draw with scissors’ We looked at the shapes of the vegetables, then drew them onto coloured paper and cut them out. Have a look at the original artwork to see if ours match up!

We had a fun day based around the Funnybones books. It was great to dress up and take part in a number of exciting activities. First we added the bones into lifesize skeletons using chalk. Next we made some skeleton pictures using straws, they look like they are moving! We also iced on some bones onto gingerbread men which we ate at the end of the day, they were delicious! In the afternoon we did a mystery tour finding clues around the school to spell out the name of a Funnybones story.
We visited St Marks and learnt about christian baptism.
Next week we are holding a carol concert for Year 1,2 and 6 parents . This will be on Thursday 15th December at 9.30 am. We will be performing on the stage in the Infant Playground. We hope you will be able to attend.
We have started to learn about the fire of London. We pretended we were in boats escaping from the fire!
We were totally overwhelmed by the very creative entries for our Olympic dish homework competition! It gave the teachers a very tough job deciding on an overall winner! We had some class winners who recieved a 2012 pin badge, 4 highly commended entries and an overall winner, whose entry has gone through to represent our school in the competition.
Highly commended – Sasha T YR, Ryan B Y3, Chelsea H Y4 and Kim B Y6
Overall winner – Owen P Y5
Well done to everyone who entered, all of the entries are displayed in our library, so come in and have a look!
