It's been another busy week in the year 3 classroom. We have been very enthusiastic with our learning this week!
History We were learning about Stonehenge...what an amazing place this is. Henge means ditch! We asked questions and tried to answer them using lots of books such as why was it built? What was it used for? How did they transport the stones? How did they get one stone on top of another? There are lots of other stone circles in the UK....there is even one in the sea made from wood. It is called (unsurprisingly) woodhenge.
English We have started to look at a poem called The Magic Box which is one of my favourite poems! It contains all sorts of impossible things such as a black sun and a fifth season. We started to write some of our own ideas based on this poem and nature. Come to our assembly on Friday at 9.00 to find out more!
Science We learnt more about the process of a fossil.
Computing We were writing code to make a 'turtle' draw a square!
RE We learnt the story of Abraham and Sarah.
Maths We were looking at mental addition strategies by picking out the bits we already know. eg 38+72 I know 8+2 equals 10 and I know that 7 and 3 make 10 so 70 and 30 must be 100....so 100 plus 10=110!
Please keep reading to and with your child plus TT Rockstars x3 a week.
Spellings for this week are... possess possessive possession dispossess dispossesses possessed.

This is where you might turn a calculation such as 8+9 into 10 and 7 or 18+9 into 20+7 or...even bigger...318+9 into 327. The main stumbling block is knowing your pairs to 10 eg 7+3 8+2 and so on. Test your child by playing a game of 'Ping Pong' ask them for the rules!
Science We learnt how a fossil is made.
