The Local School Committee

The Local School Committee (LSC) provides strategic oversight, support and challenge to the school’s senior leadership team to ensure high standards of education and the best possible outcomes for pupils. It works within the vision, ethos and policies of the Trust and ensures that statutory responsibilities are met, including those set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

The LSC is made up of the Headteacher (and Head of School where applicable), elected staff and parent members and co-opted community members who are appointed for their skills and experience and meets 4 times a year alongside a programme of LSC member visits to the school.

The LSC has delegated responsibility to work with senior leaders on the following:

• Standards
• Stakeholder engagement
• Safeguarding
• Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The LSC is a committee of the Spiral Partnership Trust which is legally responsible for overseeing the operations of the Trust’s schools.  Our decisions are monitored by, and may be influenced by, the Board of Directors who are ultimately responsible for all the actions of the Trust’s schools.

The LSC supports the work of the Trust and Board of Directors, acts as a questioning friend to the school, monitoring decision making and its impact on pupil progress, achievement and attainment and ensures that the Trust’s vision, ethos and strategy is adopted and applied by school leaders.

LSC members do not deal with individual pupil matters or specific complaints and parents and carers should first raise concerns with their child’s class teacher and then with the Headteacher or Head of School where necessary.

Corinne Doust - Co-Chair

I have been a governor at Colney Heath School since 2018. As the link governor for pupil premium, English and phonics, I sit on the School Improvement Committee. I volunteer my time to ensure that the children in our community receive a great education and I do this by supporting and challenging school leaders. 

Professionally, I work at Dame Alice Owen's School and have been teaching the sciences to A-Level since 2004. I am a member of the Teaching and Learning Team, responsible for developing and sharing good practice. I am a strong believer in continuing professional development, for myself and for others, and I have a Masters Degree in Education.   

My child is thriving at Colney Heath School (just as I did, many years ago!) and I am delighted to be able to "give something back" to our community. 

Victoria Yates - Co-Chair

My name is Victoria Yates and I joined the Governing Body in 2018.  I am currently the Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of the Resources Committee and focus on HR and Equality.

I have 20 years’ experience in Human Resources within retail, public sector and charitable trusts and my two daughters attend Colney Heath. 

I am passionate about primary school education, as the first years of a child’s education are crucial to their future pathways and achievements.   I enjoy being a Governor and being part of ensuring the school sets and achieves its aims and objectives and monitoring its progress and the learning and development of the children and staff are key elements of this.

The staff do an amazing job at Colney Heath and I love its community ethos and feel.

Patrick Delaney

I have been part of the governing body since 2017 and in that time have primarily been responsible for budget oversight. I have chaired both the resources and school improvement committees and am currently chair of governors.  My family moved to Colney Heath village in 2014 and have become entwined with the school ever since.  As a small business owner, I understand completely the pressures of being responsible for key decisions and dealing with a multitude of differing issues.  My origins are very working class and it is with thanks to the teachers and staff at the JMI school I attended that I have been fortunate to have had a varied and interesting life. My eldest child has passed through the ranks and my youngest is currently at the start of her journey at Colney Heath.  I am grateful to have the opportunity to give something back to the school and our village community. 

Katie Dean

My name is Katie Dean and I joined the governing body in September 2022. I have two children at Colney Heath and they both love attending school and are learning and developing every day.

Professionally I work for Herts County Council as Lead Teacher for Early Years SEND in the East. Prior to that I worked in a small village school where I was Deputy Head, SENCO and Early Years Lead along with many other roles. I was also a governor there for 12 years so I have prior Governor experience.

At Colney Heath I am Governor for Early Years and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and I am passionate about supporting the school in any way I can in order for the children, staff and families to thrive.
