Music

At Colney Heath we are building a musical curriculum which develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and improved well-being.  We believe in the power of music and recognise the important role that music can play in people's lives.

We encourage children to show case their skills to a wider audience, participating in a variety of musical experiences, such as Nativity and termly performances, harvest and carol concerts, assemblies and attendance at other events in the community.  All children have the opportunity to learn an instrument (violin) with a specialist teacher.

Music is taught using the Charanga scheme which is accessible to all, maximising the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. Children develop descriptive language skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent different feelings, emotions and narratives.  The scheme supports pupil progress in an enjoyable, engaging way so that students embed the musical skills of listening and appraising, composing and performing.
