Letters and Sounds Phonics. Lesson 1 - Reception

Oxford Owl - Free eBook Library:
BBC Bitesize - Phase 2 and 3 phonics:

This is a great website to help the children to blend and segment words using phase 2 and 3 phonics. After they have played the game you can then extend this.

Reading-
An adult writes the words/sentences in a larger font on flash cards.
Can your child recognise the letter sounds in each of these written words, for example, ‘sh-o-p’.
Then blend these sounds together, in the order in which they are written, to say the word ‘shop’.
Writing-
Segmenting – a key skill for writing. ‘Chopping up’ the word to spell it out.
An adult says a word, for example ‘rain’. The child then identifies the individual sounds in the spoken word ‘r,ai,n’ and then writes down the letters linked to each sound to form the word ‘rain’.
