Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We are already two months into the school year and so much has happened already. The children have learnt many new concepts and skills. The next half term on the run up to Christmas will also be very busy so please check the website for information about events and timings and don't forget to check your emails as most of our correspondence is shared this way.
Science Week
On the first week back after half term the whole school will be focusing on science with a special Science Fair on the Friday. Throughout the week the children will be learning many new concepts and scientific facts, which they will share with you at the Science Fair. The school will be open for parents from 3.15 to 3.45 for you to wonder round and see what each class has been doing. We hope to see you.
Attendance
The school's average attendance is 97% which is above national. Therefore if your child has 4% absence they are missing more learning than their class mates. Remember just 1 day means your child has missed 5 hours which will be difficult to catch up. We need to ensure that our children access the full curriculum.
Half Term
Over the coming week make sure you continue to read with your children and spend time with them talking and listening. Consider completing Five Ways to Wellbeing which can be found on our Home Learning page in Emotional Health.
Our school council have set everyone a challenge to make fairy cakes. The cakes will be judged on the Friday of the Science Fair and then sold to raise money for Dementia UK. It would be great to see everyone take part, learn the science of changing states and raise money for the charity.
Nasal Flu Immunisation
This is the last call for Consent Forms, if you haven't yet done so please can you complete and return your form straight after the half term.
Year 2 had a great trip to Hatfield House this week and shared their experience with us at their assembly this morning. Thank you to the PTA for subsidising the trip by over £5 per child. There are some photos of their visit on their class web page.
Many classes are currently studying History topics. If you look on your child's class web page (Curriculum Section) you will find a document called a Knowledge Organiser. This shows what your child will learn, in class, during this History topic and how it fits in with History they have previously studied. You may like to do further investigations or discuss this with them. Each class will add their Knowledge Organisers as they focus on a History topic.

Remember St Mark's Light Party on 31st October, optional dress code can be Pyjamas or Onesies.
We have parents that are concerned about the amount of cars that are parked in the adjoining parking area that are still leaving their engines running for a long period of time (Idling). This has an impact on our whole school community, who have to walk through the fumes, particularly your children and of course on our environment. Please be considerate and turn your engines off.
Comedy Night was a great success last Friday. There was a lot of laughter and it raised over £750 towards more books for your children to enjoy. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped organise it.
The discos for the children are next week and I know that currently there is not enough helpers. Please let us know if you are available.
Parent Consultations
Please ensure you get the forms back as soon as possible so that the staff can arrange time slots.

Community News
St Mark's Church Light Party Thursday 31st October 5pm to 7pm. This is a free event for primary aged children.
It is our Harvest Festival celebration next week. We are asking that the children bring a non-perishable donation (tinned, packet, Jar or Bottled goods) for the St Alban's Food Bank on Monday.
Attendance
We have now had a month back at school. Please check your child's attendance on the Gateway. Some of you will see that just missing two days in a month means you have 9% absence. Four days means you have missed 17% of your education. It is important that your children miss as little as possible as this does impact on their education. Please endeavour to get them into school on time every day.
Sports Update
Five Yr6 children had a day being trained as Sports and Health Ambassadors. They will be planning activities and events for the children over the coming year. On the day they all got to meet a very famous athlete. See photograph
