Home Learning - SCHOOL CLOSURE

Hello Year 3

This will be the final posting on our home learning page for this academic year and what a year it has been! Thank you so much for all your support and wonderful emails over the past few months. We all wish you a fantastic summer break and look forward to seeing you back in September.

Please pop in to say Hello anytime!

Ms Feind

As  you are all aware, Mrs Hinton will be retiring by the end of this term. Could I please ask you, to either draw a picture for her, or share a fond memory you have in form of a letter or a poem. I will print them off and we will hand it to her on her last day of school. The deadline is Friday 10 July. Any questions, please ask.

Our Year 3 email address is:

Show me your best handwriting! I can award a pen licence also from a distance! Let's do your best!

Yes, I can’t believe it either, it is actually ½ term from Monday 25th May. For the week Monday 25th – Friday 29th May I won’t be setting any work on Purple Mash or on our class website.

However for those of you who want to do some work over this week: have a look at the below power-point-presentation. It has 12 tasks on it – one per page. Why not try 2-3 slides a day to keep yourself busy and don’t forget to send them to me via our new email address: Yr3@colneyheath.herts.sch.uk

Ms Feind

-Stay positive-

Several children have requested extra "typing work" on Purple Mash. I will be setting it for the week to come. But please this is only if you WANT TO DO IT, it is NOT A MUST!

For those with younger siblings, maybe you would like to read this book with your sibling.

MATHS WORK WILL NOT BE SET ON PURPLE MASH ANYMORE. YOU WILL FIND YOUR DAILY WORK AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW SPLASHES (MATHS ALL WEEK).

IT WILL CONTAIN A LINK TO A TEACHING VIDEO AND AN ACTIVITY SHEET. THERE IS NO NEED TO PRINT THE ACTIVITY SHEET. YOU CAN WORK DIRECTLY FROM THE SCREEN INTO YOUR BOOKS. I WILL POST ANSWER SHEETS AS WELL SO YOU OR YOUR ADULT CAN MARK THEM.

EASTER HOLIDAY PROJECTS

Literacy

Do you still remember what a verb, noun, adjective and adverb is? Have a look at these pictures and see if you can collect as many adjectives, verbs, nouns as you can for some of these pictures! Remember where you can find help to find synonyms if you need to!

Arts and Crafts

Find extra inspirational projects on this website. If you give it a try, don’t forget to take a photo and send it to the school!

Art – why not visit one of the most famous museums in the world

https://artsandculture.google.com/partner

or visit one of the museums which show some of the artists we looked at last term: The Expressionists Franz Marc and Edward Munch:

DT- Baking an Easter carrot cake – trust me it is mega yummy

Find extra inspirational projects on this website.

This is Annabelle’s favourite Easter cake and every Easter she bakes it and decorates it. I will add some of the photos from last year’s cake. If you give it a try, don’t forget to take a photo and send it to the school!

Maths – doubling – let’s bake an Easter carrot cake!

I have given you the recipe for the above cake – however I have only given you half (1/2) of each of the ingredients – in order to bake one, normal sized cake you need to double the ingredients – let’s give it a try and tell me if you added the correct amount of ingredients! Don’t forget to take a photo of your measuring!

Computing – Create your own comic online

History – New toys compared to old toys

Check out the below link (it is on Twinkl, but you will be able to get on it for free. Ask an adult to help you with this:

Go towww.twinkl.co.uk/offerand enter offer code UKTWINKLHELPS

Look at this power point presentation.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/the-old-toy-room-comparing-old-and-new-toys-powerpoint-t-or-1308

Now sit down with your adult and ask him/her what kind of toys do they remember - can they show you some pictures on the internet - what does the modern version of this "old" toy look like.

Example

Audiotape recorders and audiotapes were THE music platform in my childhood. Nowadays we have Spotify, ITunes, YouTube and many more.

Can you and your adult find more toys from then and now?  Can you take some photos and send them to me?

RE- Easter around the world

Dear Year 3 Parents and Carers,

  •  LEXIA ((login details were sent home recently)
  • Purple Mash (login details in your child's reading record book)
  • TT Rockstars (login details in your child's reading record book)

Reading and sharing a book with your child .

The children will be learning about healthy living over the next few weeks.

A little booklet will be coming home today, Friday 10.01.2020, and  I have asked the children to record the following information daily:

  1. How many portions of fruit and vegetables they have eaten each day.
  2. How they travel to school.
  3. How much exercise they have had each day.
  4. If they have brushed their teeth twice a day.
  5. If they washed their hands before eating.

It would be great if they children could bring this booklet – filled in each day – back to school every day.

DIY christmas decoration

2 cups flour

1/2 cup salt

2 tbsp oil

2 tbsp cream of tartar

(Food colour and/or essential oils)

Mix together in a big pot and heat on the stove top.

Keep moving it with a strong wooden spoon until it all lumps together.

Turn out and kneed while hot using kitchen gloves.

Home Learning Words have come home in your child's Reading Record Book.

Please have a look at the last page.

You will find the words and the colour code underneath it

e.g 24.9.19 Green or 24.9.19 Blue etc....

Please practise with your child the words from your child's individual colour category only.

Children will be tested every 2 weeks on these words and will either move one colour word group up or stay on the same for a bit longer.

Every 2 weeks we will update the Reading Record Books, so you can follow your child's progress.
