What a wonderful week. It has been lovely to see all the art, music and dance being brought together for our Arts Festival today. This is the day where we celebrate the arts which the children experience all year round plus a couple of special experiences such as Street and Bollywood dancing.

Look out for the photographs and videos which will be posted on our website soon.

Tomorrow is our Summer Carnival from 2pm to 5pm. There are lots of exciting activities and attractions for you and the children to enjoy.

    PTA News

Firstly we would like to thank those of you, past and present, who helped at the St Alban's Half Marathon. This will raise vital money for the PTA. This money heavily subsidises most trips by paying for the coach as well as providing extra resources for the school.

Therefore it is essential that you support all our events especially by offering to help.

This week a number of our Junior children participated in the St Alban's School District Sports at Westminister Lodge and our Yr1/2 children had an exciting trip to London Zoo (subsidised by the PTA by £8 per child)

Thu 14 Jun 2018 Mr Rose

Another great week with the children being really busy in their learning. In maths many children have been learning their tables and gaining a better understanding of fractions.

Yr1 went mini-beast hunting at Cherry Tree Farm where they found lots of exciting insects. They made mini-beast habitats and ate sausages around a campfire.

We have had to say thank you and goodbye to Mrs O'Donogue in Nursery. We wish her all the best for the future.

    Kitchen

On Thursday the menu will be a 'Mix Up' - the children really enjoy this as they go to the counter and choose what they would like to eat.  All the favourites will be served so everyone will get something they like.

    Uniform

We are delighted to be working with Mapac who will supply our school uniforms in the future.  The link to their website will be uploaded on our front page early next week.  The stock remaining at school will sold on a first come first served basis.  Further information will be sent to you via email.

    Fri 08 Jun 2018 Mrs A Clark

School has seemed a little bit quieter than usual this week, as many of our Year 5/6 children have been to the Isle of Wight. It will be fantastic to have them back and hear all about their exciting adventures next week, but in the meantime, one lovely piece of information that made it back to Colney Heath ahead of them, was that their behaviour was described as ‘a credit to their school, families and teachers’ by one of the sites they visited. It is a pleasure to recognise and share that information.

Meanwhile, back in school there has also been plenty of high quality and exciting learning to celebrate. In both Years 3 and 4 there has been a distinctly geographical feel to the week. Our geologists in Year 4 have been experimenting with volcanoes as part of their Romans topic, as they find out about the unfortunate city of Pompeii. Their assembly this morning staged a dramatic re-creation of the famous eruption, much to the delight of the audience! Year 3 have been using plasticene to construct the layers of the Earth as part of their Science topic on rocks and soils. There was great delight as they sliced open their models and explained how each layer is constructed.

Year 1 have also been out and about this week, with some help from Years 5 and 6, as they search for mini-beasts. The discovery of an ant colony certainly gave them the chance to practice their tallying skills!

The children are not the only ones who have been out more this week – you may have noticed our KS2 teachers in the Infant Playground at the end of the day. By accompanying our classes round each day, we are hoping to have more opportunity to keep in touch with parents. Please come over and say ‘hello’, it’s a great chance to exchange snippets of good news or ask a question.
