Fri 26 May 2017 Mr Rose

What a glorious week we have had with both the weather and all the exciting things happening in school. It was lovely to see all the children participating in sports day with many of you cheering them on. (Photographs in Special Events section of the website).

Today the children have run around our school field to raise money for Cancer Research as part of Race For Life.

Remember next week is half term, and we return on Monday 5th June.

We will be focusing next term on punctuality to ensure all children arrive in school and on time before registration. Remember every day counts in your child's education.

The Summer Carnival is fast approaching. Tickets for the circus are flying out. If you haven't got yours yet remember you can pay by PayPal. It's only £5 each and that includes entrance into the Summer Carnival.

We are looking for helpers on the morning of Saturday 24th June to set up gazebos. To offer your assistance you can contact the PTA by email PTA@colneyheath.herts.sch.uk or by phone on 07907294223

9th June - Yr1 Cherry Green Trees Camp

    20th June - Yr3 Celtic Harmony

    21st June - Yr4 Verulamium Museum

    21st June - Yr5 Nicolas Breakspear

    28th June - Yr1 & Yr2 Paradise Park

    DINNER MONEY

We want to take the opportunity to thank all the parents who keep an eye on their child's dinner account and keep up to date with payments.  It really helps to reduce the administration in the office and allows the transfer of funds to Hertfordshire Catering to take place without the school having to subsidise.  There are 7 weeks till the summer holidays (and one inset day) so if your child has a meal each day the cost for the next half term will be £78.20.

Have a wonderful half term and we look forward to seeing you on 5th June.

Fri 19 May 2017 Mrs Clark

Over the last two weeks we have enjoyed the EYFS assemblies, where our youngest children confidently sang songs and gave us fascinating information about sharks and caterpillars. The picture tells story of Jack and the Beanstalk, combining pictures (can you spot the golden harp and coins?) and words. The children can retell this classic tale with expression and enthusiasm. Throughout the school, talk is essential to all our learning including writing. Year 1 excitedly explained their maths and I know from parents that Year 2’s watches have lead to plenty of discussions about time, and they are all now excellent time-keepers! Recently Year 3 have been learning about the Stone Age; there were some excellent discussions about how to construct shelters and the benefits of using particular materials - their advice included the perceptive, ‘Stone beds are definitely not very comfortable’. Earlier this week Year 5 and 6 were debating why Sir Francis Drake could be considered a pirate, it was lively and well-informed. Below is an example of a piece of Year 4 writing, it is easy to hear the author’s voice and shows how ‘writing floats on a sea of talk’. This evening our PGL adventurers will return and have plenty to talk about! Enjoy listening to our fantastic children ……

Fri 12 May 2017 Mr Rose

A recent poll for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) found that parents are often too busy to spend quality time with their children. 42% were worried that social media was taking their children away from quality family time when they were at home. What do they mean by quality time?

It's just doing a few family things together: sit around a table and have dinner, go out together (a walk or shopping), have a time when no one has their phones, cook a meal together, curl up on the sofa and read a book. It's just about having time to talk, share things, laugh and have eye contact.

These are not things that take up lots of time or to feel guilty about.

Fri 05 May 2017 Mr Rose

As the weather begins to improve the children have been able to enjoy our field at playtimes, for football tournaments, Den Building, PE lessons and the Athletic Club. Over the coming months the field will be getting busier and busier with Sports Day, Race for Life, Summer Carnival and the Arts Festival. It is lovely to see the children being able to use such a wonderful space.
